CALLING ALL ARTISTS
The Women's Resource Center at Cornell University is collaborating with artists and survivors of violence to create the project, "We Step Into the Light."
The purpose of this project is to raise awareness about sexual assault, relationship and gender-based violence, and stalking through art created for "thrivers," which is a term that has been chosen to replace the term "survivors."
We are looking for artists who are interested in taking part in this project. In “We Step Into the Light” each artist will be paired with a survivor of sexual assault, relationship violence, gender-based violence, or stalking.
The artist will get to know the survivor through conversations that focus on understanding the thriver. The artist will then create an artwork that captures the uniqueness and beauty of the thriver.
Art for this project can be of any form, including painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, poetry, song, and dance.
The art pieces will be displayed in the Mann Library lobby in mid- April, followed by an Art Exhibit in Willard Straight Hall with refreshments and music.
The artwork will be exhibited in an opening reception on Friday, April 10th from 6pm to 9pm in the Baker Portico at the Physical Sciences Building on the Cornell University Campus. The reception will include music and refreshments. The art will then be displayed at the Mann Library on the Cornell Campus from Saturday, April 11th to Friday, April 17th.
